Above: Game play trailer of Combaticon (single-player mode)

Combaticon is a cooperative third-person brawler made in 7 months. Players have their choice of weapons called Gear that they can swap mid-combat to change up their fighting style seamlessly and gain power to unleash special attacks! The goal of the game is to punch and kick your way to the ultimate fighting tournament COMBATICON. There are two levels the players can progress through and challenge themselves in the fight!

Designing the game play for Combaticon has always revolved around the two pillars:  Player-progression and Fluid Combat. Setting these pillars early in the development stages helped the team and I envision and keep true to the game we set out to make.

Player Progression

The player(s) should always push forward towards their objective. As the camera angle and level design show that moving upwards is always the direction to travel. Player(s) should encounter several different types of enemies as they move through each level and try out different Gear combinations as they progress.

Fluid Combat

The player should never feel locked in place while attacking or defending. The player can move freely while performing combos and can dodge around while defending. The player can cancel their current attack animation by dodging in order to avoid taking some damage. With Gear, the player can attack and move in a fluid fashion to take down their numerous foes.
